Soneium: An Onchain Entertainment Economy Built for Tokenized IP

What is Soneium?

Soneium is the onchain entertainment economy built by Sony Group and Startale Group in 2025, home to applications across music, games, anime, film, collectibles and fan creations. Through Tokenized IP, Soneium brings intellectual property onchain, connecting creators and IP owners with new funding opportunities and the communities behind them, so fans and investors can take part in the growth of the IP they believe in. Built for the AI era, the network provides the infrastructure for human creators and autonomous agents to build, distribute, and settle IP value at scale.

“Entertainment is moving onchain, and Soneium is where it happens. With Tokenized IP, any creator or studio can grow their work together with the fans who love it, and investors can back a project and share in its success. This will bring creators, fans and investors closer than ever.”

What is Tokenized IP, and what launches with it?

Soneium announced the Soneium Portal as an official Tokenized IP platform and hub for IP discovery and investment. It starts with primary sales and expands into fan participation and royalty distribution.

Bridge to Soneium via Startale App: app.startale.com

They noted their Startale App is an all‑in‑one super app and the gateway to the ecosystem: a single place to bridge in, manage assets, discover applications, and earn across Soneium.

Soneium describes three asset types.

  • IP Tokens: Each token represents a creator, studio, or title. A token can be a collectible, as proof of fandom across experiences, or a fungible token designed to circulate as the main currency inside an IP’s economy. Soneium launches with Moriusa, a popular character IP from Super State Holdings, the Tokyo-based entertainment group behind some of Japan's most popular creators.
  • IP Vaults: Vaults give indirect access to entertainment asset pools, such as music catalog funds.
  • IP Bond: A bond product backed by entertainment businesses. Through its partnership with K-pop IP company DayOneDream (WAVIST), Soneium will tokenize concert business royalties of proven K-pop artists.
“Soneium built Tokenized IP as a new product category, and that only works if the infrastructure underneath it just works. I studied mathematics and art history in college, and Soneium is the clearest example I've seen of blockchain actually expanding what's possible for artists and their work, not just moving the same products onchain.”

How does the onchain IP architecture work?

As AI changes how content is made, remixed, and distributed, Soneium plans to pair three layers: an IP Registry, an IP Graph, and an IP Execution Layer. Together they make creative works programmable.

Soneium supports ERC-8432, the Onchain IP Asset and License Registry. It is a proposed open Ethereum standard with a machine-readable interface, which would allow people and AI agents to query license terms, verify agreements, and settle licenses programmatically, without platform lock-in.

What does this mean for teams building on the OP Stack?

Soneium is a production example of the managed model. A global brand keeps ownership and sets the roadmap, and a dedicated operator runs the infrastructure.

The OP Stack is open source and MIT licensed. As of October 2026, 54 mainnet chains are deployed on it. From January to September 2026, OP Stack chains averaged 908M transactions per month and handled 66.8% of L2 and L3 transactions in an average month. Total value secured was $22.2B in September 2026.
