Meritz Securities Signs MoU with Optimism on Tokenized Financial Asset Business Cooperation

What was announced

Meritz Securities has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The Optimism Foundation ("Optimism") to cooperate on the tokenized financial asset business.

The two sides will examine structures for the issuance, settlement and distribution of tokenized financial assets using OP Stack-based networks, including OP Mainnet. The subject of this cooperation is a business model that uses the public Layer 2 as the distribution and settlement infrastructure for tokenized financial assets.

“The significance of this agreement is that it examines the role a securities firm can play as tokenized financial assets are distributed and settled on a public Layer 2. We will review ways to cooperate with Optimism, putting investor protection and consistency with the regulatory framework first.”

What Meritz is focused on

Within the scope of applicable laws and its securities business license, Meritz Securities will examine ways it could take part in the supply and distribution of tokenized financial products backed by domestic assets. Meritz Securities plans to review the detailed scope of cooperation under the agreement, taking into account the ongoing development of Korea's security token regulatory framework and current market conditions.

“We're excited about the ongoing growth of our work in Korea, and glad to welcome Meritz Securities to the OP Stack as they begin exploring tokenization. What makes it interesting is what happens when issuance and settlement sit on the same open network instead of in separate systems. Meritz is starting with a practical question, which is what role a securities firm plays in that, and we look forward to exploring it with them.”

About Optimism

The Optimism Foundation is building toward a world of a million chains, all settling to Ethereum. The OP Stack is the open-source, MIT-licensed foundation that gets us there: the shared infrastructure beneath more than 50 production chains, the home of OP Mainnet, and the technology behind OP Enterprise. Exchanges and institutions are already building on it, from xStocks' tokenized equities on OP Mainnet to Korean securities firms exploring tokenization on the OP Stack, including KB Securities, DB Securities, and Meritz Securities, to the DeFi and consumer applications spanning the broader ecosystem. In the first nine months of 2026 alone, OP Stack chains settled $35 trillion in stablecoin transfer volume. OP Labs is the core service provider for The Optimism Foundation.
